< >Cunard showcased its new ship Queen Anne to exclusive guests at an event in London.
Invited media, influencers and cruise industry networks were in attendance at the event, which was held at Carlton House Terrace and saw the unveiling of a collection of never-before-seen artwork championing young contemporary artists – some of the 4,300 pieces of art that will be on the ship.
These included Tommy Camerno’s portrait of Queen Anne which will be displayed on board.
Designers from David Collins Studio, Richmond International and Sybille de Margerie, who worked with Creative Director Adam D. Tihany, were all in attendance to reveal the design inspiration behind the ship.
Guests were also introduced to Bright Lights Society – a new intimate venue offering hosted experiences and a carousel of entertainment for guests.
The 3,000-passenger Queen Anne will set sail in 2024. The maiden season goes on sale for CWC members on December 6 and on general sale on December 7.
The Devon port of Plymouth, which markets itself as “Britain’s Ocean City”, is on course for a busy cruise season in 2023.
A dozen ships are already lined up to visit next year, including Saga’s Spirit of Discovery, Silversea’s Silver Dawn and Fred Olsen Cruise Lines’ Braemar.
Following the pandemic, the city saw seven individual cruise ship visits in 2022, including Seabourn Ovation, Pennant’s Le Champlain and, most recently, Holland America Line’s MS Rotterdam, which called at the city as part of the line’s 150th anniversary celebrations.
There was an onboard event with travel trade, media and a port and city delegation including the Lord Mayor, Councillor Sue Dann, the King’s Harbour Master and members of the Plymouth Cruise Partnership, to mark the historic occasion.
“The cruise tourism generated by the ships visiting Plymouth brings a welcome economic boost through passengers and crew spending on everything from visiting the attractions and taking tours, to the gift shops and other retail outlets, cafes, restaurants and boat trips,” said Destination Plymouth chief executive Amanda Lumley.
“It’s fantastic news that so many passenger liners are already booked in for next year and we would encourage local businesses to get involved with the cruise guests and crew coming ashore, putting up welcome signs and decorations to make each ship’s call a really special event for visitors.”
