Ask six cruise clients what luxury means to them and chances are you’ll get six answers: Small ships, personal space, personal service, all-inclusive prices, destination, choice. And then, just when you think you’ve got it sussed, the next will say it’s a big ship with a private bolthole, so there’s lots of dining and entertainment but also a quiet place to hang out – what cruise lines call a ship within a ship. The fact is that luxury is in the eye of the beholder and understanding each clients’ interpretation and requirements is vital to succeed in this sector. The good news is that cruise lines have raised the bar over the past few years, offering ever-more sumptuous ships, finding inspiring new destinations to explore and including more in the price, ensuring there is a cruise to suit every luxury aspiration.
