It feels like we’ve been on the road back to ‘normality’ for an eternity. It’s true that progress has been slow, and the industry continues to be frustrated by the government’s enforcement of infuriating, ever-changing, overly complicated and – because of testing requirements – expensive travel restrictions.
As Abta argues: “The UK is falling behind our European competitors and the opening up of international travel from the UK is progressing at a snail’s pace – making it extremely difficult for travel agents and tour operators to generate enough income to kickstart a recovery.”
That said, these monthly editor’s letters do help us realise that progress is being made. Since we last wrote to you, international cruise has been given the green light – ending the Foreign Office ban on cruise holidays that has been in place, in one way or another, since July 2020. That is something to celebrate, even in these difficult circumstances.
It also means, there’s plenty to tell you about. In this issue, you’ll find all the latest news – from the new itineraries being launched to the ships being floated out and the naming ceremonies – as well as new hires, incentives and our restarts document. We reveal five amazing spaces on Saga’s new ship Spirit of Adventure, consider how to sell cruises to solos and take a closer close at one of the great cruise ports of call: Dubrovnik.
We hope you enjoy reading.
We’d like to celebrate the best cruise has to offer with our second Cruise 20 awards. We want you, our loyal readers, to pick your favourite cruise lines in 20 different categories, from the most environmentally friendly cruise line to the best pizza at sea, as well the best overall lines in both river and ocean. We’ll be announcing the winners in the September issue of Cruise Adviser. Click here to vote.
